Knitted Maze

We did it!

Please see here for photos

In August 2011 Saffron Walden will be holding a maze festival. As part of the festival there will be a knitted maze. Twist Yarns is organizing this fantastic event and would like to invite you to take part in something truly special.

We are celebrating the wonder of mazes and the wonder of knitting. We have people all over the world contributing. There is a ravelry group for people to swap ideas and inspiration and I am happy to give advice and help anyone get knitting, crocheting or generally creating. We will be aiming to yarn bomb the mile long turf maze on the the common.

Please get in touch if you would like to join in.

We would love to see contributions knitted in a variety of materials using as many methods as possible.  Ripped up plastic bags, recycle t-shirts, leather cord, 50p a ball from your local bargain store, the finest silk.  This is the ultimate de-stash project.

How much have we knitted so far? Good Question. I used to know, because it all sat in a plastic bag in my dining room. Now it is spread all over the world and until it starts to put in an appearance throughout August I won't know for sure. I am pretty certain we are at the half way mark, but that still leaves approx. 2000 ft to knit.

There are knitalongs planned for the Maze throughout May and June.  Confirmed dates so far: May 4th, Railway Pub, Saffron Walden, 8pm May 16th, Methodist Church, Saffron Walden, 2pm - 4pm May 21st, Granta Bar, University Centre, Granta Place, Cambridge, 2pm - 4pm Ely - TBA June 11th, Saffron Walden Market - Knit in Public day.

Check out the new festival website here and the festival is on facebook now as well.
